What is powder coating?

Powder coat is a powder that transfers to liquid form thru a process of heat that is applied with a powder coating equipment with a a specific electromagnetic charge. Normally the items will have to be an alloy or metals that can be powder coated due to high heat requirements.

Process for powder coating?

​

Inspection

All rims are inspected to assure they are road worthy before process starts minor damage is included a base pricing anything found during inspection are subject to extra charges.

​

Remove all paint, primers or powders 

Stripping rim to bare alloy, removing all paint, primers, clear coat or powder assures best possible results. ( this process is currently outsourced )

​

Outgas

Removing all impurities requires outgassing this releases or give off (a substance) as a gas or vapor out of the rim.

​

Repair

Any repairs curb damage or imperfections in rim are repaired in this stage.

​

Sandblasting 

Process of smoothing, texturing and cleaning a rim surface by forcing solid particles across that surface at high speeds using compressed air.

​

Preparation

Washing, degreasing and tack rag the rim to assure all lose particles are removed.

​

Apply Powder

All powders have different requirements for application from KV setting to Microapms it is critically important to assure application are done correctly for best results and longevity.

Cure Time

After rims are powder coated, they are allowed to cool off most commonly for about an hour, and are prepared for mounting and balancing.

How long does powder coating take?

Based on the type of rim will determine the time necessary. For general purpose powder coating a set of four rims high gloss black will take 2 to 3 days. Other rims like light hyper silver or machine finish will take 2 to 4 days. Polished rim take 4 to 7 days. 2 piece and 3 piece rims may take 5 to 10 days to complete

How long to repair a bent or cracked rim / wheel?

Please read carefully, before repairing a cracked or bent rim it must be checked to determine it may be repaired safely.

General bent and cracked rims can be repaired commonly between 4 to 8 hours. Complex or extensive repairs could take days each circumstance is different.

​

Powder coating calipers?

Powder coating your calipers is a great cosmetic look and durability. Due to the complexity of powder coating this is not the most common procedure for calipers. Calipers have to be completely disassembled by a certified technician to assure brakes are properly reassembled after powder coating for safety. We do not offer to disassemble or reassemble calipers or brakes. We only powder coat the Calipers.

Painting Calipers?

Painting your calipers is a great cosmetic look and durability this procedure is the most common which offers a wide variety of colors. Utilizing the highest quality primer paints and clear coats ushers great longevity, Typically painting calipers will take two days.
